Southern California Biodiesel Users Group (SOCALBUG) Membership Card

As I mentioned in slide thirty-seven of my Biodiesel Roadtrip slideshow, which I'm sure all of you have carefully read by now ;) there is a law in California where you can't sell a blend of biodiesel more than twenty percent to individual users. I think that law is unfortunate as it presents another barrier to using biodiesel and gives the impression that it's very experimental or untested, but I do sort of understand and agree with the theoretical intent behind it. Anyway, the way that you are able to get around this law and purchase higher blends or one hundred percent biodiesel is by becoming a member of a biodiesel users group, which gives you some information about the risks and precautions to take when using it in your vehicle.

So, when I filled up at Pearson Fuels in San Diego, I had to go in to the store and fill out an application to join the Southern California Biodiesel Users Group. It was sort of a hassle, but sort of cool at the same time. Anyway, back then the guy told me that they would send me a membership card. It has been quite a while so I was sort of guessing it wasn't going to come, but sure enough, it was in the mail today. So, I am now an official card-carrying member of SOCALBUG. :) You might be wondering what the point of this second photo is and how it's related to my attaining membership in SOCALBUG. There's no relationship. It just looked mighty tasty, and the appearance didn't lie, it was mighty tasty. Yummm...
